The walk's sponsored charities

I am raising money for the following charities.  You can donate to all of these, or just one, or any combination that you wish.  They are all registered with the Charity Commission in England & Wales, unless indicated:

Aid to the Church in Need (no. 1097984) supports the Catholic faithful and other Christians where they are persecuted, oppressed or in pastoral need.  They are well known for their work in the Middle East.

The British Association, Sovereign and Military Order of Malta (no. 1103567).  The Order of Malta is one of the oldest religious orders in the Catholic Church and carries out humanitarian work throughout the world.  Funds raised will go to one of its new projects, the Nehemiah Project, which assists the rehabilitation of prisoners.

The Siddington Trust (no. 282339).  This charity runs Thornycroft Hall, a retreat and conference centre near Macclesfield.  This fine Georgian building requires essential repairs and upgrading to modern standards.  Spiritual activities at Thornycroft are provide by Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church.

St Wulstan’s Musical Education Trust (no. 1111829).  Rather unusually for a parish Church, St Wulstan’s, Wolstanton has a volunteer choir that sings plainchant and polyphony at Mass every Sunday.  It is not cost-free, however, and funds raised here will go towards continuing this fine musical tradition.

Alive to the World Ltd (registered with H.M. Revenue & Customs no. XT30498).  This small charity is dedicated to producing materials for good, wholesome Personal, Social and Health Education in our schools.  Christian values have rarely been under such threat as now, yet modern science supports a fully Christian ethos.  Declaration of interest: I am the trustee of this charity and my wife Louise runs it.  We are both volunteers and will not benefit financially from any sponsorship.

The Bishop of Shrewsbury’s Our Mission Together Fund (registered under the Diocese of Shrewsbury no. 234025): 30% will go to the parish of St Gabriel’s Alsager, 30% for priestly life, and 40% for mission and social outreach.

The Catenian Association Bursary Fund (no. 1081143).  This is for young Catholics (aged 16-24) to take part in projects that clearly involve the implementation of Christian, and particularly Catholic, principles.

The Family Education Trust (no. 1070500).  This non-denominational charity researches the cause and consequences of family breakdown and promotes the welfare of children and young people.
